League Setup

DMB currently suggests creating a game directory by the name of "DMB?" where ? is replaced by the major version number of the software (e.g. DMB7 is used for version 7.0 and 7.1 of the baseball game). We suggest following the DMB recommendation. Allow the game installation process to create this directory. It will be stored off the desired disk drive's root directory.

Below the game directory, each manager should manually create all the special NARC directories/folders (Player directory, and Stats directory). The Work directory is a special case that should be created off the root directory to save keystrokes later. Creating directories can be done from the DOS Prompt or by using My Computer in Windows95. Each manager will need a NARC Player directory. The NARC Stat directory is required only if the manager plans to import series results on his/her local machine.

The diagram below is a pictorial representation of the necessary directories for the NARC 1998-99 season for which version 7 of DMB's game was used.

                                \ (root)
                                   |
                                   V
                    --------------------------------
                    | |
                    V V
                   DMB7 WORK
             (Game Directory) (Work Directory)
                    |
                    V
          ---------------------
          | |
          V V
       NARCGAME NARC9899
  (Player Directory) (Stat Directory)

Once the game is installed and the necessary directories are created, the manager should download the league file from the web site. It is stored in ZIP format. A separate league password is required to allow download of this file. This password will be issued to a manager after DMB acknowledges that the manager has legally purchased the game and related player data.

Some web browsers allow the user to specify where to save a downloaded file. Eventually, the file should end up in the NARC Player directory. Once in the NARC Player directory, the file should be uncompressed and then deleted from the disk. If you plan on keeping stats, then all the files created from the uncompress step should also be copied to the NARC Stat directory.

Note: If this is a preseason copy of the league file, there isn't any need to copy the files to the NARC Stat directory. Roster changes will require that the NARC league file be downloaded again before the season begins.

The last step is to let the game know about the newly created directories. You can use the BASEBALL program OR the SETUP program to do this. Both programs are located in the Game directory. >From the BASEBALL main menu, select Setup which presents the same screen as the SETUP program.

Use the DMB manual to create Player directory entries for both the NARC Player directory and the NARC Stat directory. Then "Activate" the NARC Player directory. You will need to know the disk drive and directory names to complete this step. If the directories are already setup from a prior year, continue to use those entries.

Note: Always start a file name with the "root" symbol "\". For the above NARC Player directory, the full name would be \DMB7\NARCGAME.

The last part of this step is to initialize the stats for both the NARC Stat directory AND the NARC Player directory. This can be done as many times as you want before the season starts so that you can play season simulations. Just make sure both directories are initialized before starting the season.
